ABOUT MEI come from a non-traditional career background, having left academics as a PhD ABD to pivot to a career in the corporate world for many years, but throughout that time I never lost my passion for learning and teaching. My first classroom teaching experience came just after completing my undergraduate degree, when my history mentor invited me to teach a summer intensive Latin course for incoming history graduate students. What I experienced teaching and interacting with that group in daily lessons and discussions could only be described as exhilaration.
Becoming a parent has further stirred my passion, as I helped guide two boys toward life skills such as displaying respect, learning from mistakes and resolving conflict, as well as helping them navigate the educational challenges we faced together during the pandemic. As they now approach graduation from high school, these two young men are my sages; they live in secondary education’s present, and as much as my teachers and colleagues, they will help guide my future as teaching. |
